Tour Details

8 day luxury driving trip starting in Antalya and finishing at Dalyan, passing through Phaselis, Çıralı, Kekova, Kaş, Ölüdeniz. The perfect way to experience the mountains, sea, and ancient history of Turkey’s southern coast.

Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive in Antalya Airport. Drive to Old Town.

Pick up your rental car at the airport and drive to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit some of the nearby sites like the Old Town, Antalya Archaeology Museum, Perge ancient city, or just relax at the Konyaaltı Beach.

Overnight at Belmondo Hotel, Antalya

Day 2. DRIVE to and visit Phaselis. Cable Car to Mt. Tahtali. Optional Hike Ulupinar – Cirali (9km).

After breakfast, you’ll drive to the ruins of Phaselis; the sea here is just as or even more impressive than the ancient ruins themselves, swimming is highly recommended! Then, from the coast you’ll head straight up into the mountains, taking a cable car to the top of Mt. Tahtali (Mt. Olympos) which sits at over 2000m. Time permitting, hike from Ulupinar straight to your hotel in Cirali, seeing the legendary fires of Chimera on the way.

Overnight in Naturlife Bungalows, Cirali.

Driving Distance: 90 km

Day 3. Visit Olympos. Drive to Hoyran via Myra.

Take a morning walk along the beach to visit the coastal ruins of Olimpos. Then head to Myra and the Church of St. Nicolas on your way to Hoyran, a small settlement surrounded by ancient rock tombs. Away from the crowds, you’ll feel like the first people to discover these hidden ruins. This is also where you’ll be spending the night tonight.

Dinner and overnight stay at Hoyran Wedre Evleri.

Driving Distance: 100 km

Day 4. DRIVE to Kas via Kekova. Kekova Boat Tour.

Your first stop today is Kekova, home to an ancient city that was partially submerged after an earthquake in ancient times. The best way to visit these ruins is by boat, which is why we’ve arranged a boat tour for you today. After the boat trip, you’ll head to Kas, a lively seaside town. Take lots of time to explore the bars, cafes, ruins and shops on the stone-paved backstreets of Kas.

Overnight stay at Payam Hotel (upgraded room).

Driving Distance: 64 km

Day 5. DRIVE to Gombe. WALK Green Lake Loop (6 km). DRIVE to Tlos.

From your hotel in Kas, you’ll head up to Gombe, where traditionally, shepherds living near Kas would bring their flocks in summer. Enjoy the fresh, cool mountain air with a short loop walk around Gombe’s green lake, and then a picnic on its shady shores. You’ll then head to Tlos, a lesser explored but amazing ancient city, where you’ll spend the night.

Overnight stay at Tlos Boutique Hotel (upgraded room).

Driving Distance: 125 km

Day 6. Explore Tlos. DRIVE to Kayakoy via Pinara.

Start your day by exploring the ruins of Tlos. Hopping in the car, you’ll head to Pinara, another ancient site located in a tranquil mountain setting of pines and olive trees. Here you’ll take a short walk and be served a traditional village lunch. Then drive to Oludeniz where you’ll be staying for the night.

Overnight at Ecclesia Hotel, Oludeniz.

Driving Distance: 62 km

Day 7. HIKE Kayakoy to Oludeniz (6km). DRIVE to Dalyan. Dalyan Boat Tour.

After a quick transfer, start the day with a hike through the abandoned Greek village near modern day Kayakoy and back down to Oludeniz on a scenic path. Conclude the hike with a quick swim before driving to Dalyan. Your afternoon will be spent on a boat trip seeing cliffside rock tombs, a beach/sea turtle nesting ground, and the ruins of Caunos. A 40-minute drive takes you to your hotel in Sarigerme.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a self-guided tour?

A self-guided tour provides holiday makers with the chance to escape the stress of booking hotels and planning a vacation without the need for a group tour or a guide. Think of all the ease of a standard tour, without the obligatory schedule that comes with traveling with a guided group. After prearranging our customers’ transfers and hotel reservations, we prepare a detailed digital tripbook full of historical facts, important phone numbers, and hiking or driving directions, and more to provide you with all the information you’ll need along the way. You will also receive a link to Wikiloc app (free to use for our customers) through which you can follow our GPS coordinates. We provide 24/7 phone support via WhatsApp, Skype or any other phone line. In addition to dropping you off at trailheads when necessary, one of our drivers will pick up your luggage and transfer it to your next hotel during you’re daily hikes or excursions. Since everything has been prearranged for you, and there’s no guide or group you have to keep up with, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your holiday at your own pace.

Is it possible to make changes to a program?

Absolutely! When feasible, we are always happy to tailor any program to suit your schedule and wishes. Whether you want to add a couple days, extend some hikes, combine multiple tours, or come up with your own program entirely, we’ll try our best to make sure your tour is perfectly suited to you.

What type of a car do you provide?

The cars that we rent for the tour are usually latest models of Renault, Hyundai or Dacia with manual transmission. Upon request, it could be possible to provide a automatic transmission car as well.
For groups larger than 4, it is possible to rent a Ford Custom that has a maximum capacity of 8 people.

Can I use my foreign license to drive in Turkey?

Yes, all foreigners are allowed to drive for six months in Turkey without a Turkish license.

When is the best time to travel to Turkey?

The Turkish coast is best visited outside the heat and crowds of July and August and the rains of January and February. While the best times to hike on the coast are March-May and Late September-Early December, our self-drive tours are also great options all through the summer. Cappadocia is best visited May- Mid November.

When is the best time to hike the Lycian Way?

The best time to hike the Lycian Way is either in Spring (March-May) or Autumn (Late September-Early December). There’s is only a small chance of rain during these two seasons and temperatures are cool enough to warrant an enjoyable hike. The months of January and February are quite rainy, and the summer months can get unbearably hot. The only hiking we can recommend during summer is 1-2 hour hikes in the early morning or evening, no full day hikes.

Are the tours available any time of the year?

Yes, our tours are available any time. Since our tours are self-guided, there are no set dates, you can choose any time that suits your schedule. During the off-season some of the hotels we usually work with may be closed, so the hotels you stay in may be different than those listed on our website.

What equipment do you provide?

We provide a link to Wikiloc app through which you can follow GPS coordinates, a detailed e-book outlining your tour program, with lots of pictures and relevant information, hyper-links for google maps locations etc. Participants are responsible for bringing their own hiking equipment such as boots, poles, hat, and backpack.
