Dalyan to Gallipoli - 15 Days


This 14 day grand tour of the Turkish Coast starts in Dalyan and takes you all the way up to Canakkale. We’ve included as much variety as possible in this tour: you’ll have half-day hikes combining mountains and the sea, visit local museums, experience Turkey’s artistic and culinary side, see ancient ruins in beautiful locations, and witness traditional village life and culture. In addition to the classic ‘must-see’ sites of the area, you’ll get the chance to see places virtually unknown to foreign tourists, all connected by some of the most scenic drives Turkey has to offer.


 Day 1: Arrive in Dalaman. Drive to Dalyan. (D)
Upon your arrival to Dalaman Airport, you will pick up your car; GPS, tripbook, phone, etc. will be waiting inside. Then, you will drive to Dalyan where you will be staying for the night. Have a relaxing evening by the river and enjoy the views of Dalyan’s famous ancient rock tombs.

Day 2: Dalyan Boat Tour. Drive to Sogut. (B, L, D)

Today starts with a boat trip around Dalyan. You’ll take a walk through the ancient city of Caunos, then visit Iztuzu Beach, a protected sea turtle nesting area, and of course take lots of pictures of the rock tombs and beautiful Koycegiz Lake. Drive to Sogut Village, a lovely little settlement overlooking Greek islands and the winding coast, in the evening.

Day 3: Transfer to Bahceli. Hike Bahceli - Taslica – Cumhuriyet (9k). Drive to Selimiye. (B, L, D)

A fantastic hike awaits you today. Starting from Bahçeli Hamlet, the rocky route goes high above the coast with amazing views and arrives at Taşlıca, a completely authentic village yet untouched by tourism. Next is the breathtaking hike down to Cumhuriyet Hamlet. Spend the afternoon with a visit to the towns Bozburun and Selimiye.

Day 4: Transfer near Bozburun. Hike to Selimiye (9 km). Optional Boat Trip. (B, D)
Today’s hike is full of even more amazing views. You’ll walk along coastal hillside pastures, winding your way down through the old houses and gardens of Selimiye before reaching the waterfront, full of cafes and shops. In the afternoon, you have the option of taking a boat ride around the nearby islands and coves.

Day 5: Drive to Datca. Winetasting. Visit to Knidos and Lighthouse. (B, L, D)
A day on the Datca Peninsula, one of the most remote corners of the Turkish coast. Full of activity, the day includes wine-tasting and lunch at Knidos winery and a visit to the ruins of the ancient city of Knidos and the nearby lighthouse. Head back to the cobblestoned streets and stone buildings of Eski (Old) Datca where you will be staying the night.

Day 6: Ferry to Bodrum. Underwater Archeology Museum. Art Collection. Drive to Cakilliyali. (B, D)
Today starts with a morning ferry ride from Datca to Bodrum, then a walk along the harbor to the Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum, set within the medieval castle of the Knights of St. Jean. Have an optional drink and a chat with private art museum owner Ender before heading to the quiet beach of Cakilliyali, where you will be spending the night.

Day 7: Hike Cakilliyali – Kisebuku (10k) (B, L, D)
Hike from your guesthouse to a nearby cove called Kisebuku, where you will have the chance to see ruins dating back to the 6th century. In addition to history, there is a lot of natural beauty along the way, as well as beautiful coves for swimming.

Day 8: Drive to Labraunda. Hike Labraunda – Kargicak (7 km). Drive to Comakdag. (B, L, D)
The day starts as you drive to Labraunda and explore these extensive ruins. This ancient pilgrimage site will probably be all yours as there are rarely any visitors. Then you will start the hike down to Kargıcak village, after which you will drive to the mountain village of Comakdag, known for its traditional houses and rich culture. You will be staying with a local family, an unforgettable experience and a true insight into village life.

Day 9: Drive to Kapikiri. Visit Heraklia. Hike Karahayit – Golyaka (5 km). (B, D)
Today is a journey into history, from Byzantine Period frescoes to Neolithic wall paintings, from Hellenistic city walls to Roman period ruins. Kapıkırı, like Comakdag is a quite authentic village where you can see traditional Aegean culture.

Day 10: Drive to Selcuk. Visit Ephesus and surroundings. (B, D)
A day in the Roman Capitol of Asia Minor, visiting in the important sites around Ephesus, including St Jean Basilica, İsa Bey Mosque, Ephesus and House of Virgin Mary. The day finishes as you drive up to Şirince Village for an overnight stay in Kayserkaya Cottages.

Day 11: Visit Pergamon. Drive to Adatepe. (B, D)
After a morning stroll around the narrow streets of Sirince, a three hour drive takes you back in time to the ancient hilltop city of Pergamon. A scenic drive takes you along the Aegean coast, stopping in Adatepe, where you will be spending the night.

Day 12: Olive Oil Museum. Visit Yesilyurt. Walk around Assos. (B, D)
You’ll visit the local olive oil museum before driving to Assos. Along the way, you’ll pass through many beautiful villages, stopping in one called Yesilyurt. End your day with a visit and walk around the ruins of ancient Assos.

Day 13: Walk - Ancient Trail. Drive to Yaniklar. (B, D)
Start your day with a morning walk along a stone paved ancient road, probably used by residents of Assos. Spend the afternoon driving the picturesque coastal roads and relax with some sightseeing: optional visits to the castle of Babakale village and the Apollon Smintheion temple at Gürpınar. End the day in the peace and quiet of your hotel in Yaniklar Village.

Day 14: Yaniklar Hike (6.5 km). Truva National Park. Drive to Canakkale. (B)
Today’s easy hike, a mix of paths and roads, takes you past two authentic villages. Follow the footsteps of Homer with a visit to Truva National Park; combining history and nature with an afternoon swim. Then, head to Canakkale, the last stop on your tour.

Day 15: Optional guided tour of Gallipoli.
The car is returned this morning and our services end. Yet for those who want to explore the battlefields of Gallipoli, you might want to take a guided tour around Gallipoli.
